Some new story details have surfaced for the upcoming Universal Pictures and Blumhouse reimagining of The Invisible Man. This information was revealed in a new synopsis that was released for the Leigh Whannell (Insidious: Chapter 3) directed film.

The film centers on Cecilia Kass (Elisabeth Moss), “a woman trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with a wealthy and brilliant scientist. She escapes in the dead of night and disappears into hiding, aided by her sister (Harriet Dyer), their childhood friend (Aldis Hodge) and his teenage daughter (Storm Reid). But when Cecilia’s abusive ex (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) commits suicide and leaves her a generous portion of his vast fortune, Cecilia suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turn lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, Cecilia’s sanity begins to unravel as she desperately tries to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.”

As you can see, this takes the concept of an “Invisible Man” and does something completely different with it. This is in no way an adaptation of the classic H.G. Wells novel, which the original film was based on. The creative team basically just took the title and decided to do their own thing with it and tell their own story, which is fine.

It sounds like an interesting story, and I hope the film turns out to be good. I like the cast and I’m looking forward to seeing it. But, it’s not The Invisible Man and I’ll be keeping that in mind when I watch it.

The Invisible Man opens in theaters February 28th, 2020.
